Cross-sectoral Collaboration in promoting lifelong learning --Award Presentation Ceremony of the HKCSS-Citi Continuous Learning Recognition Scheme 2008

The Award Presentation Ceremony of HKCSS-Citi Continuous Learning Recognition Scheme 2008 was held at the HKCSS 61st Annual General Meeting on 13 November 2008 to present the Awards for Organisations The awards were presented by Ms. Kathy Cheung, Director of Country Corporate Affairs of Citigroup, Mr. Bernard Chan, the Chairperson of HKCSS, Dr. David Fong, Chairperson of Steering Committee of the HKCSS Institute, Vice-Chairperson of Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation and Ms. Christine Fang, the Chief Executive of HKCSS.

The HKCSS-Citi Continuous Learning Recognition Scheme 2008 started from 1 December 2007 to 30 November 2008. Staff of HKCSS Agency Members have participated over 16,000 hours in this scheme year.

The Awards for Organisations 2008 go to:

Hong Kong Association for Specific Learning Disabilitiesis a self-help organization which unifies the parents of children with learning disabilities, looking for suitable teaching methods and solutions to tackle the difficulties in the training process. It also aims to enrich the community knowledge on learning disabilities through public education and advocate policies concerning the needs of the group.
   

The Intellectually Disabled Education and Advocacy League Limited was found by a group of people with mental disabilities, their parents and volunteers with objectives to develop people with mental disabilities with skills for independent living. The league unites people with mental disabilities and their parents for mutual assistance and support, and promotes awareness and acceptance of the people with mental disabilities in society. Among all Agency Members, HKCSS has about 40 self-help organisations which work with HKCSS as a platform for service development.

   

Community Drug Advisory Councilconcerns with the matter of drug abuse. It is committed to raise the community awareness about drug use, educate the community in effective drug prevention strategies, promote healthy lifestyle choices and prevent drug abuse.

   

The Boys' Brigade, Hong Kong is the only uniform group being awarded in this year. It aims to assist a balanced development of member's body, mind and spirit, and to nurture them into youth leaders and good citizens of the society through the teaching of Christian truth, life skills, physical training and social skills through a series of youth recognition schemes. The three core services of the organisation are uniform group, training centre and school social work service.

   

Senior Citizen Home Safety Association (SCHFA) operates the “Personal Emergency Link Service” on a 24-hour basis and the “Elder Ring Hotline Service” for elderly citizens living alone, fulfilling their vision of SINGLY NOT FEAR; ELDERLY BE CARED. Besides promoting the spirit of continuous learning within the organisation, staff of SCHFA also take up the post of trainers to share their knowledge and experience in courses or activities organisaed by HKCSS to share their knowledge and experience with other NGO practitioners, making significant contribution to the sector.

   

Caritas Hong Kong provides comprehensive services to the community, including social work services, education services, medical services as well as community and hospitality services with the motto of “Love in the Service of Hope”. Staff of Caritas actively involve in trainings and eager to build up a culture of continuous learning to upgrade their service level to meet the community need.

* According to the 6 membership fee categories of HKCSS Agency Members, an award will be conferred to an organisation in each category. Organisation which has the highest number of hour-points gained by its staff or committee members from the courses or designed activities of HKCSS will be awarded. Each awarded organisation will be awarded with a total of HK$10,000 cash and course coupons to encourage NGOs to pursuit continuous learning.
