Introduction

This course is designed to provide clinicians with an in-depth understanding of the assessment and treatment procedures of anxiety disorders. Anxiety disorders are often mis-diagnosed as depression even when anxiety is a distinctive psychological states which is different from depressed mood. Many high functioning adults suffer from chronic worrying and somatic symptoms that are associated with anxiety. Behaviours such as repeatedly checking and washing seem odd to an outsider, but people who suffer from obsessions and compulsion know there is something wrong with them but they just don’t seem to know how to let of these oppressive rituals.

Ms Natalie Tong is an experienced trainer who has conducted over 100 training workshops/seminars. She is a Registered Psychologist who has worked extensively with adults suffering from various kinds of psychiatric disorders and has trained social workers, nurses, and other health professionals in working with this population. She provides psychotherapy, supervision, and training in her private practice. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the United States and a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). She received her training in clinical psychology and is an Associate Member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and an Associate Member of the Hong Kong Psychological Society (HKPS). She is also an Approved Supervisor with the Hong Kong Professional Counselling Association (HKPCA).

Case illustrations will be the main focus of instruction in this 2-day course (13B-PE19 & 13B-PE20). The trainer will share her real-life case experiences in working with clients suffering from anxiety disorders. Participants will be encouraged to engage in group discussions to learn effective strategies in resolving complex counseling scenarios.
