Legal Training for Equal Opportunity Advocates (Workshop 3)

Objective

While there is an increased awareness of legal protection against discrimination, there is a lack of understanding on the part of marginal groups about how to make use of the procedures and mechanism to seek redress to their grievances.  Experience shows that people supported by well trained advocates have a higher chance of having their cases settled satisfactorily.  There is a desperate shortage of legally trained equal opportunity advocates in Hong Kong. This course intends to address the desperate need for trained equal opportunity advocates to advance the protection of clients who may face discrimination of different forms. The participants will learn about how to assist clients to make an assessment of the grievances, make effective use of the procedures for settlement, and determine remedies and effective settlement.

Content

This course consists of 4 workshops. Each workshop deals with an area of the Discrimination Ordinance and instructor will deal with principles, case laws and settlement procedures including complaints, mediation and remedies of each of them.
