From Needs to Impact: Advancing Proposal Writing and Pitching for NGOs through AI

Introduction

Accurately understanding the needs of communities and service users, crafting targeted proposals, and pitching initiatives effectively are essential for NGOs seeking to enhance impact and secure resources. This course guides participants step-by-step through the strategies of needs assessment, the practical techniques of proposal writing and pitching with the support of AI, and aims to empower NGO staff to confidently and systematically develop project ideas that drive resources toward their organisations and beneficiaries.


The workshop integrates theory, real-world case analysis, AI Application and group practice, enabling participants to immediately apply what they learn. Through these hands-on activities, they will boost the effectiveness of proposal writing, as well as their pitching and presentations in daily work, strengthening service design and organisational sustainability.

Objective

  • To master effective needs assessment methods for understanding community and service user needs
  • To learn the structure, logic, and practical skills for writing impactful proposals
  • To enhance core knowledge and skills for project pitching and communication
  • To master the collaboration skill with AI

Content

  • Foundation of needs assessment, and identifying community and service user needs with data
  • Key structures, logic, and hands-on tips for effective proposal writing
  • Strategies to increase persuasiveness and effectiveness in pitching and presentations
  • Real case sharing and proposal sample analysis
  • Group discussion and simulation exercises, including the use of AI application, covering the full process from ideation to pitching
    (Please bring your own laptop. Participants are encouraged to identify target funding schemes and draft simple project ideas in advance to maximise the application of course skills during the session.) 


The course does not operate on a first-come, first-served basis.

Remarks: 

  • Applicants have to use the online membership system of the HKCSS Institute for enrollment. The membership is on an individual basis, for the application of the courses and activities of the HKCSS Institute only.
  • Staff from HKCSS Agency Members will not automatically become members of the HKCSS Institute. The membership is not equivalent to the membership status of HKCSS Agency Member.

Mr. CHAN Cyron 陳思朗先生

Mr. Cyron Chan holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Hong Kong and a Master's degree in Social Service Management from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He also pursued impact investing studies in Singapore. With extensive experience in social innovation, proposal vetting, artificial intelligence applications, and design thinking training, he is dedicated to integrating technology with social services, providing innovative solutions for NGOs and educational institutions. Over the past few years, he has organized and led more than 100 professional training sessions for various charitable organizations and schools, covering topics such as AI applications, design thinking, innovation management and funding proposal writing. In addition, he has served as a guest lecturer at The Education University of Hong Kong, providing students with professional guidance in innovative thinking, technology applications, and social entrepreneurship.
