Essentation Accounting Knowledge for NGO Accounting Staff

Introduction

Good accounting practice can support steady growth of an organisation and also a sign of good management behind. Therefore, a series of accounting workshops are organised to enable center supervisors, accounting staff of NGOs or management staff responsible for financial issues to acquire the financial knowledge and approaches in managing NGO finance.

Objective

This workshop series are designed for NGO staff with an aim to provide basic and essential knowledge of financial management and accounting for handling daily accounting functions and controls with the following objectives:

 To provide basic financial management for center supervisors / service managers in handling finance function of their service units
 To provide essential accounting knowledge for accounting staff in preparing, interpreting and analyzing financial statements
 To help managerial staff in mastering cost function and control for decision making
 To assist center supervisors / service managers in developing and implementing internal control for their service units

Content

- Introduction to financial accounting practice, concepts and standards
- Understanding periodic measurement of financial statements and reporting recorded assets and liabilities in NGOs’ accounts
- Discussing the impact of HKAS 16 and HKAS 20 in relation

Financial Management Consultant
Mr. Steve Lam was previously the Deputy Director (Finance & General Administration) of a local NGO. With his experiences in the financial profession of over 30 years and in the social service organisations, he can provide insights to NGO staff in topics relating to financial management. Prior to joining NGO sector, he had rich experiences in financial and management accounting, financial management and taxation in the commercial sector. Steve is also an experienced trainer in many similar training courses for social work professionals and is a popular speaker in many NGO seminars with topics in relation to financial management. He is now an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the Hong Kong University and currently holds the qualifications of Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Management Accountant and Certified Practising Accountant (Australia).
