Objective

To enable non-finance background managers of social service to acquire the concept and methodology of output costing with a view to achieving better understanding of the cost structure of services and strengthening their capability to:

1.       Cost service outputs

2.       Analyze cost information

3.       Identify areas for improvement, and make business/operational decisions, such as

l   Redesigning services or processes to improve efficiency

l   Changing service mix or delivery mode

l   Improving service cost and performance Formulating service and pricing strategy

l  Understanding basic accounting and cost management

l  Practising the preparation of financial statements for services

l  Introducing output costing, its application for social service, the methodology, key steps and tools

l  Sharing real life examples of applying output costing in agencies

l  Using real life example to practise analysis on output costing information

New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association
Ms Sania Yau is currently the Chief Executive Officer of New Life Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association. Ms Yau is working with a team of 900 employees committed to the development and delivery of recovery-oriented mental health services to render residential, employment and training as well as community support for people in recovery and their families. The Association has been operating 20 social enterprises since 1994 to promote social inclusion and self-reliance for people in recovery through job training and employment. In addition, it launches mental health promotion and prevention programs and operates the New Life Institute of Psychiatric Rehabilitation to provide specialized training for mental health professionals. Sania will share her experience in working with local and international coaches.

A Chartered Management Accountant and previously, director of the consulting practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers, John is experienced in strategic, organisation, financial and HR management. He has developed various management models for social service and assisted many NGOs to implement them, including output costing for around 20 agencies. He has provided consulting and training services to over 40 NGOs.
