Legal Training for Equal Opportunity Advocates
Objective
While there is an increased awareness of legal protection against discrimination, there is a lack of understanding on the part of marginal groups about how to make use of the procedures and mechanism to seek redress to their grievances. Experience shows that people supported by well trained advocates have a higher chance of having their cases settled satisfactorily. There is a desperate shortage of legally trained equal opportunity advocates in Hong Kong. This course intends to address the desperate need for trained equal opportunity advocates to advance the protection of clients who may face discrimination of different forms. The participants will learn about how to assist clients to make an assessment of the grievances, make effective use of the procedures for settlement, and determine remedies and effective settlement.

莊陳有先生畢業於香港大學，獲頒文學學士，並於倫敦政治經濟學院獲頒資訊系統管理碩士。莊先生現為EL2100董事、香港失明人協進會會長、復康聯會副主席、黑暗中對話主席以及低碳亞洲主席。他曾在香港政府內任職政務主任，後來加入香港樂施會並獲委任為總幹事，其後出任香港大學學生發展及資源中心學生發展總監。他於1991年榮膺香港十大傑出青年，1995年獲頒MBE勳章，2004年獲中國扶貧基金會頒發「中國消除貧困獎奮鬥獎」，以及在星島新聞集團主辦的「2011傑出領袖」選舉中獲選為社區 / 公共組別傑出領袖」，並於2012年獲香港大學頒授名譽大學院士銜。

He has over 25 years of practice as barrister and has been a visiting scholar at Stanford University.
