Introduction
In a fast-changing environment, NGO leaders must look beyond sound operations—they need clear strategic direction, disciplined thinking, and the ability to translate plans into action. This workshop offers a practical “toolkit” for strategic planning, guiding participants to clarify vision and priorities, assess internal and external realities using proven frameworks, generate strategic options, and anticipate uncertainty through scenario thinking. Participants will also learn how to engage key stakeholders and drive change, ensuring strategy evolves from a mere document into coordinated action that delivers meaningful impact.
Objective
- To understand principles of strategic planning and be familiarized with strategic thinking and planning process and tools

1. Overview of Strategic Planning Principles and Framework
- Strategic vs operational planning: understanding the difference
- The strategic planning framework: a structured approach
- Historical review and key learnings: insights from the past
- Environmental and internal analysis: conducting PEST and SWOT and key factors
- Craft the vision with unique position and critical few
- Develop strategies with innovation and impact
- Plan scenarios and identify triggers
- Lead change and build habit with nudge
- Capture opportunities in serendipity

He has been the head of education services, senior manager of technical services, quality management and business development of Hewlett-Packard, and holds a Doctor of Education degree in lifelong education from the University of Nottingham.
Joseph has trained more than 20,000 managers and professionals in NGOs and commercial organizations in the areas of project management, service management, agile leadership, strategic planning, innovation and DISC. He is renowned for his interactive approach and the ability of integrating management best practices and making them simple and easy to apply. Joseph is a Project Management Professional (PMP), Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), advanced DISC practitioner and behavioral consultant, and MBTI administrator. |
