Introduction

NGOs have been looking for accounting practitioners to join the sector, to apply their professional knowledge to support the organizations.  In light of fulfilling the requirements of funding providers and the general public, centre supervisors/ service managers meet different challenges in handling the daily financial demands.  This Certificate is planned for NGO centre supervisors/ service managers to get the gist of the up-to-date financial knowledge and contemporary approaches in managing NGO finance.

Objective

  • To provide essential knowledge of financial management and accounting for center supervisors/service managers in handling the accounting records
  • To provide knowledge for the accounting staff to handle a full book of accounts effectively with due diligence
  • To help managerial staff in mastering cost function and control for decisions made
  • To assist centre supervisors/ service managers in developing and implementing internal control for their service units

Financial Management Consultant
Mr. Steve Lam was previously the Deputy Director (Finance & General Administration) of a local NGO. With his experiences in the financial profession of over 30 years and in the social service organisations, he can provide insights to NGO staff in topics relating to financial management. Prior to joining NGO sector, he had rich experiences in financial and management accounting, financial management and taxation in the commercial sector. Steve is also an experienced trainer in many similar training courses for social work professionals and is a popular speaker in many NGO seminars with topics in relation to financial management. He is now an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the Hong Kong University and currently holds the qualifications of Certified Public Accountant, Chartered Management Accountant and Certified Practising Accountant (Australia).

Ms Ivy Chan is responsible to lead a team of accounting staff in managing the financial operation of the Scout Association, responsible for the development and implementation of accounting / financial management system. She possesses over 10 years of practical experiences in dealing with financial issues of NGO. Prior to her working for the NGO, she had over 8 years of accounting experiences in the business sector. She worked as consultant in the business field, to perform feasibility studies and financial monitoring of the business in Guangzhou.
