Certificate in Fundraising for NGOs

Introduction

In order to be sustainable, social service organizations need to find and diversify the funding source. This course helps social work practitioners to formulate their fundraising strategy and identify different ways of fundraising to enhance their organisations’ fundraising capability. It is designed for social work practitioners who would like to equip and advance their practical skills on fundraising.

  • To introduce the fundraising strategic plan and its planning cycle
  • To describe the concept and application on donor relations management and it’s relation to network building and sustainability
  • To introduce typical fundraising tools with NGO examples

Kanie is an expert fundraiser, marketer and administrator. She spent 10 years working in commercial sectors before joining Oxfam Hong Kong (OHK) in 1998, where she helped pioneer the application of various skills to the non-governmental organization sector. She became the agency’s Hong Kong Unit Director in 2011, overseeing its fundraising, communications, poverty alleviation programmes, advocacy and development education. In 2013, Kanie was named OHK’s Director of Fundraising and Communications, a role in which she became responsible for fundraising, communications and branding strategies in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Mainland China. In 2015, she was appointed CEO of Plan International Hong Kong. She has been conducting fundraising trainings and sharing of development issues at universities and with various NGOs in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. With her contribution to the poverty alleviation work in the developing countries and her support to the philanthropic markets in both Hong Kong and Mainland China, Kanie was awarded as one of the 2nd World Outstanding Young Leaders by Yazhou Zhoukan in 2017.

Winnie has 20 years of experience in the field of marketing, project development and event management in sizable non-profit organization. She is experienced in the development and marketing strategies in promotion and coordination of public exhibitions and fundraising campaigns. She currently serves at Hong Kong Red Cross, taking charge of the department to develop fundraising strategies, including driving of fundraising campaigns, enhancement of donor loyalty and relationship building, and to maintain a high standard of accountability to donors.

Half the Sky Foundation
Caleb So is the Associate Director of Development of Half the Sky Foundation, an international organization created to provide nurturing care and education to nearly 5,000 orphaned children in China. Since its inception in 1998, Half the Sky has directly impacted more than 108,000 orphaned children and trained 12,000 administrators and caregivers in 450 social welfare centres in China.

Caleb has over 15 years of INGO’s public relations and fundraising experience in Hong Kong. Prior to joining Half the Sky, Caleb was the Marketing Director of World Vision Hong Kong. He was also the Senior Public Relations Manager of ORBIS International Inc. overseeing different events and communications for Asia.

During his tenure in World Vision Hong Kong, Caleb was responsible for all marketing and fundraising campaigns including Child Sponsorship Program, 30-Hour Famine as well as Corporate and Major Gift.

Ms Godi Li has over 10 years of working experience in marketing and public relations division. With her experience in marketing at several private corporations, she effectively channels her professional skills from private corporate to fundraising for a nongovernmental organization. In the past years, she successfully organized various large-scale public education events, exhibition tour in shopping malls, school-focused programs, as well as sponsorship programs for private corporates. She has built up a network of corporates and volunteers, reaching out to and delivering the organization’s message to many. She currently works at The Society for AIDS Care as the Fundraising and Communications Manager.

Ms Yan CHAN is the Program Director of ZeShan Foundation, a Hong Kong-based private family foundation focusing on strategic philanthropy. Yan has more than 20 years of experiences in social services, having previously worked for the Caritas Hong Kong, Hong Kong Council of Social Service, Hong Kong AIDS Foundation and Children’s Medical Foundation. She had served on various ad-hoc committees mandated by the Hong Kong Government for more than 10 years. Currently, Yan is the Chairperson of the Community Drug Advisory Council, a 25-year-old NGO focusing on drug prevention and education. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Yan holds a social sciences degree in Social Work from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, a MBA from the University of Leicester and a MBS from the University of Hong Kong.

Fundraising Projects Presentation and Diagnosis (Lunch gathering + Presentation)

- The participants who enroll for the full certificate must attend this session from 1245pm to 1500pm on 4 September 2014 (Thursday).
- The Adjudicators will be Mr Timothy Ma,Ms Kanie Siu and Ms Winnie Wong.

Certificates

- "Certificate in Fundraising for NGOs” will be issued by the HKCSS Institute to participants who have completed 24 hours workshops, PLUS participated in project presentation. Attending hours of the project presentation will not be counted.

- Attendance Certificates will be issued to participants upon completion of each individual whole session.
