Introduction

 

Objective

Success in building teams is a significant function of employee motivation and performance management in today’s social service sector. Getting the right persons on board and managing for team effectiveness can facilitate good performances and eliminate complicated challenges. This certificate programme is designed for team leaders and supervisors who are in need of mindset and skill sets required in leading teams confidently and effectively.

• To enhance and equip the necessary HR knowledge required for effective day-to-day people management in the organisation

• To strengthen the skills required in practising people management and handling related issues

Retired Human Resources Management Practitioner
Mr Lam was a seasoned human resources management practitioner for over 30 years before his retirement in 2014. His extensive human resources management experience encompasses different industries including construction, real estate, telecommunication, trading and finance, and different cultural background. Mr Lam has been conducting management related training courses and as voluntary committee member for various NGOs since the early 90s. He is a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management in which he served at various time as the Vice President, Member of the Executive Council, co-Chairman of the Professional Standards Committee and member of various committees. At present, he is a Honorary Assistant Professor teaching people management course at the Department of Social Work and Social Administration of the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Joseph Wong is a management training expert and a seasoned management practitioner with more than twenty-five years’ experience in people development and service management. He has been the head of education services, senior manager of technical services, quality management and business development of Hewlett-Packard, and holds a Doctor of Education degree in lifelong education from the University of Nottingham.

Joseph has trained more than 20,000 managers and professionals in NGOs and commercial organizations in the areas of project management, service management, agile leadership, strategic planning, innovation and DISC. He is renowned for his interactive approach and the ability of integrating management best practices and making them simple and easy to apply.

Ms Lam has over 10 years’ experience in the social service sector. She specializes in NGO’s capacity building and cross-sectoral collaboration. She assisted the Council to establish the HKCSS Institute in 2007 with an aim to enhance management quality of the sector. Ms Lam has provided management consultancy on organization review and talent development for a number of organizations. She is also the project-in-charge of salary survey and competency modeling on leadership. She is a certified DISC behavioral consultant of the Institute for Motivational Living and certified practitioner of Workplace Big Five Profile of the Center for Applied Cognitive Studies (CentACS), USA, and Harrison AssessmentsTM. She holds an EMBA (HKUST), MSc in Social and Public Communication (LSE) and a GDip in Management Consulting (HKU).

Mr. Wong has more than 20 years of HR leadership, training, consulting, coaching and research experience in Hong Kong and across Asia. He has been the Head of HR in many reputable local and multinational companies from different industries like Hutchison Whampoa (conglomerate), Johnson Electric (engineering), Sony (hi-tech), Avery Dennison (manufacturing), Nestle (consumer products), RedMart (eCommerce), Dairy Farm (retail) and DHL (supply chain). He is also lecturer at various universities and HKIHRM.

Mr. Wong holds a BBA Degree in Marketing, two Master Degrees in Social Science and Business Research and is a Doctorate candidate in Leadership and Management. He is a Fellow Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management (HKIHRM), and a DDI and FranklinCovey licensed trainer.

With over forty years of service in the people management profession, Mr Lai is experienced in HR management strategy, reward management, performance management, employee engagement and succession planning. Prior to his current role, he was the Group HR Manager of CLP Holdings, Ltd., the parent company of China Light & Power Group, managing the Group's remuneration policies and practices, as well as its HR Information System. He is also a regular speaker and guest lecturer at local universities and professional bodies.

Certificates

• "Certificate in People Management for Team Leaders and Supervisors in NGOs” will be issued by the HKCSS Institute to participants who can complete the full certificate programme, including sessions 1, 4, 7 & 9 with at least 80% attendance.

• Attendance certificates for individual sessions will be issued to participants who can meet the 80% attendance requirement.

• The duration of the full certificate programme is 31 hours (on top of 22 hours from core courses, participants are required to take an additional 9 hours of training from elective courses). 

• $250 of course fee will be added if Session 2 is elected.
